Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt finally settle divorce after 8 years

American actress Angelina Jolie and ex-husband Brad Pitt have finally settled their divorce after an 8-year battle.

The news of the settlement was first reported by People Magazine, and then Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, confirmed it in a statment, stating that the couple had come to a deal.

Simon said, “More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long, ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, citing “irreconcilable differences.” It later emerged during separate court proceedings that she had accused Pitt of being abusive to her and two of their children on a private jet that year. Pitt was not charged following a police investigation into the incident and has denied the allegations.

Four months later, the former couple revealed that they reached an agreement to handle their divorce in a private forum, and would keep future details of their divorce confidential by utilising a private judge.

“The parties and their counsel have signed agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make any necessary legal decisions and to facilitate the expeditious resolution of any remaining issues,” according to the statement.

A judge then declared them divorced and single in 2019, but the splitting of their assets and child custody needed to be separately settled.

The couple met on the set of the 2005 film Mr and Mrs Smith and their relationship garnered international media attention. As their relationship became public, they became a fan favourite under the name ‘Brangelina’ and during their marriage they had six kids.
