A 9-year-old orphan, Divine Nwankwegu, has made an appeal to the Ebonyi State government and other concerned individuals to assist him in locating his family after months of unsuccessful efforts. Divine has been searching for his relatives for the past five months, with no success. The young boy, who is currently residing at the State Children’s Centre, located within the juvenile remand home in Ugwuachara, Abakaliki, explained that he comes from Nwofe Community in the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Divine shared the tragic circumstances surrounding the loss of his parents. According to the boy, his father, Mr. Sunday Nwankwegu, was a carpenter who died following a fall from a roof while working. Shortly after his father’s death, Divine’s mother, Mrs. Stella Nwankwegu, was killed in a hit-and-run accident involving a lorry. The series of unfortunate events left Divine without immediate family, leading to his placement with another family in the region.
The boy disclosed that after the deaths of his parents, he was handed over to one Sunday Paul and his family, who reside at Ndiegbe Sharon Junction in the Izzi Local Government Area. However, despite being placed under their care, Divine alleged that he faced maltreatment. These conditions, he said, prompted him to run away from the household in search of safety.
Divine’s journey to find his family has been long and difficult. Since leaving the home of Sunday Paul, he has been unable to locate any of his relatives. With no known family members or guardians to care for him, Divine has turned to the Ebonyi State government for help.
